Anybody know who these guys are? Tom Martinez, Tom House, Lloyd Carr, Bill O’Brien, Jerry Schuplinski, Jeff McDaniels, and one named William Stephen Belichick?
These are just a few of the coaches that have coached Tom Brady, the currently reigning GOAT. (For those of you who have been away from the internet for 20 years, Tom Brady is a quarterback in the National Football League and is touted as the Greatest Of All Time). Even the most committed New England Patriots haters begrudgingly admit that Brady is at least one of the greatest football players ever.
And, yes, that Tom Brady has a coach. In fact, he currently has several coaches who watch his decision-making on the field, leadership in the huddle, throwing technique, and training and diet off the field. They bring their years of experience into helping him excel at his vocation.
It’s a tough job being his coach, and not for the reason you would expect. Bill O’Brien says this about coaching Tom Brady:
“One of the most difficult jobs you can have is coaching Tom because he wants to be coached. You coach him every single day, every minute of the day, and all year round because he’s all football. He’s a phenomenal guy and the reason why he is what he is, is because he’s obsessed with football. He’s a great family guy, don’t get me wrong, but I mean, he’s obsessed with football. So when you’re coaching him you better be ready to go at a moment’s notice whether it’s for a meeting, or practice or game, and it made me a much better coach when I was fortunate enough to coach him.”[1]
One of the greatest quarterbacks in history is so committed to excellence in his trade that he places the highest demands on those whose job it is to observe, analyze, and then strategize improvement of his every move.
It’s a symbiosis that has led to 6 Superbowl rings and virtually every quarterback record in the books.
