What’s the DoBe of your sermon?

As your congregants what out the back door of the sanctuary, what do you want them to Do, Be, Know or Feel as a result of your preaching?  It doesn’t have to be all four of those each week.

Perhaps today’s sermon on the Great Commission is a call to action, a challenge to “Do” something new or different.  Or maybe you are walking through Psalm 23, and today’s passage was about God leading us beside still waters.  Will they simply “Be” in God’s caring presence this week?  Or you are in the middle of a series on God’s attributes and they now “Know” more about God’s omnipresence, one more amazing characteristic of God. Or perhaps they just experienced a tragedy in the community and you preached about God’s comfort and they will “Feel” that palpable presence of the suffering Savior throughout the week.

Once you establish firmly which of those, Do, Be, Know, or Feel you are shooting at, your aim will be better. Frame your sermon to hit that target.
