We come on Sunday mornings to be changed, So it is one of the more perplexing realities that many preachers often do not spend quality time on their applications. Some simply don’t get around to it. And there are members of a truly curious subset who go all the way and assert that they do not think it is their role to apply the sermon. I’ve run into a few preachers who state with a certain dismissive “spirituality” that their job is simply to explain the Scriptures and then to “allow the Holy Spirit to apply it to each hearer’s life.”
